This chapter uses the four historic waves of ecocriticism as a theory to inform pedagogies for secondary English classrooms that engage students in discussions of climate justice and action. The four subsections elucidate key tenets of ecocriticism and offer practical approaches and resources for teachers. Ecocriticism interrupts the false binary that divides nature from culture, and through outdoor education, local inquiry, and curated environmental literature, teachers can foster students’ connections to nature to aid in spurring climate change action.
