Local Ecologies and Critical Media Production

Page history last edited by Richard Beach 1 year, 2 months ago

This chapter details a year-long collaboration between English Language Arts and science education that supported students in studying the climate crisis from a local perspective:  middle-school students explored the impacts of a century of oil drilling on the Los Cerritos wetlands in the city of Long Beach, California. Working from an ecopedagogy lens, the young scholars investigated the impacts of these extractivist policies on their local community and challenged indifference through critical media production, including podcasts, music, and parodies of popular gameshows.
